There once was a time when I tried desperately to adapt to a strange, new environment, when, on the other hand, I had the luxury of enjoying time to think in leisure, which I could not afford previously. The waterfront nearby the house where I lived at the time was lined by precipitous cliffs that created awe-inspiring scenery. It naturally made me reflect on my past. I was deeply moved by the beautiful scenery created by layers of time.
Isn’t it that humans respond to ‘depth of time’ by instinct? Based on this assumption, I conducted experiments on forms, from which I found many possibilities for my work. I still make attempts in many ways in search of new properties of clay.
