나는 오랜 인류 사용의 역사가 있는 유기 재료인 점토가 자연환경과 문명 세계에 역사적으로나 지질연대적으로나 아주 중요하게 관련되어 있음을 인식하게 되었다. 그래서 나에게 물리적인 사실들은 이질적으로 보이는 것들 간의 관계를 생각하게 하는 다양한 기회를 제시한다. 인간의 활동과 자연적인 과정, 심사숙고와 운, 과거와 현재, 보이는 것과 느껴지는 것을 연결하면서 이질적으로 보이는 것들 사이에 연계감을 형성한다.

I have come to recognize that clay, as an organic material with a long history of human use, can offer a substantial link to both the natural and cultural worlds, to historical as well as geological time. To me, the physical facts suggest diverse opportunities for considering relationships among seemingly disparate things. Connections emerge, linking human activity and natural processes, deliberation-chance, past-present, and what is seen by what is sensed.
